Lighter barge

A barge is a flat - bottomed vessel with shallow draft and high load capacity, categorized into non - self - propelled (tug/pusher - driven) and self - propelled types. It features simple structure, low cost, ideal for inland/coastal short - haul cargo transport and engineering operations, operable individually or in convoys.

Applications

Transport bulk cargoes like coal, ore and grain on trunk/branch inland waterways such as the Yangtze River and the Beijing - Hangzhou Grand Canal, suitable for 100–3000 DWT non - self - propelled barges.

Short - haul transfer of containers and building materials between ports, 5000–12000 DWT deck barges/self - propelled barges are commonly used.

Transport of offshore wind power equipment and bridge components; semi - submersible barges for heavy - lift installation, hopper barges for dredging and dumping.

Transport of liquid cargoes (crude oil, chemicals) and oversize equipment (shield machines, generator sets), requiring customized liquid tanks/reinforced decks.

Port pontoons, temporary floating platforms and rescue rafts, suitable for simple floating barges/modular barges.

Key Configurations

Made of high - strength steel, with flat bottom and single/multi - hold design. Non - self - propelled barges have no propulsion cabin, while self - propelled ones are equipped with engine rooms; deck barges have a full - flat bearing surface, and hopper barges are fitted with bottom - opening dumping mechanisms.

Non - self - propelled: No main engine, equipped with bollards and pushing devices for tugs/pushers; Self - propelled: Equipped with low - speed diesel engines + propellers, power matched with load capacity, some with self - unloading systems.
